When researching the history of the car I had tracked down the original owner dealership where the car had been serviced. I recently purchased the car with a slightly hefty premium as it's an unmolested example. I'm assuming it was done sometime before 2011, maybe even several years before then. I was unsuccessful in tracking records for the update. Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly when it was updated.

The cooling system was updated by the original owner before selling in 2012.

Thus the reason I'd like to overhaul and upgrade this supposed Achilles Heal in the e36. Your answer may depend on how long you plan to keep the car if it's beyond another 50k and the Turner radiator isn't that much more expensive than two oem radiators, it might well be worth it, because it would likely last about as long as a stock radiator should last. Thanks! Yeah, I plan on never getting rid of the car. The new rad is 0.83" thicker and leaves me with 0.67" space if I make the upgrade.↑ I _think_ many suggest just replacing the oem radiator at some sort of preventive-maintenance interval, like every 50k or 60k or 70k, in the hopes of reducing the occurrence of having a plastic radiator end-cap inlet pipe unexpectedly and likely inconveniently, if not necessarily disastrously, snap off. Engine mounts are AKG swap poly and the trans are Rogue with the cups.ĮDIT: Verified that with the stupid nut removed I have 1.50" space between current rad and both the crank bolt and the WP. No AC, no power steering, only the water pump nut and crank bolt look to be potential hazards. Space starts to get pretty tight around the waterpump nut but I've got one of those gimicky TMS nuts on the pulley cause they chucked it in an order for free, I can easily save 1/2" there by removing it.įan is a 16" spal pusher, no puller. I plan to run a ton of track time in the car and haven't had any significant cooling issues so far but the needle does start to rise slightly in mid-summer autocrosses.Ĭurrent rad has a 1.57" thick core, the Z3M mishimoto is 2.4" thick.

I know they are popular with the v8 swaps but they have a little more space to work with in front of the motor. Has anyone used this combo? My rad is leaking and I'm looking to replace it with a Mishimoto Z3M unit.
